IK Start is a football club that has been an important part of Norwegian football history, especially during the period from 1955 to 1964. Start celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1955, marking a new era for the club. Throughout the 1950s, Start welcomed several new players, including striker Leif Grundetjern and Hungarian goalkeeper Attila Bende, who contributed to the club's development. In the 1958/59 season, Start qualified for the Hovedserien as the first club from Southern Norway, which was a significant achievement. In the 1959/60 season, Start got its first chance in the Hovedserien, but the stay was short-lived with only one win. The club experienced several changes in the league structure, and in 1963 a nationwide league was established at the second level. Start was unable to gain promotion but developed talented players like Harald Båsland and Reidar Flaa. In 1964, Start finished the season in fourth place in the Second Division, which provided hope for the future.
